-A commonly used preparation method is through multi-step synthesis. First, the benzocarbazolone reacts with sulfur dioxide to produce the more stable 4,9-dihydro -4,9-dimethylbenzocarbazolone. Then, 4,9-dihydro -4,9-dimethylbenzocarbazolone is deoxygenated with dimethylethylenediamine to yield 5,12-Dihydro-12,12-dimethylindeno[1,2-c]carbazole.
